Serving Mobile, AL
Mobile, Alabama is a major Gulf Coast hub where I-10 and I-65 meet, anchored by a deepwater port and a dense defense and aerospace base. Austal USA builds Navy vessels on Blakeley Island, BAE Systems runs ship repair on Pinto Island, and the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley hosts more than 70 companies including the Airbus final assembly line. Add the Coast Guard Aviation Training Center, AM/NS Calvert steel, and the University of South Alabama research complex, and the region carries heavy demand for precise measurement.
Tra-Cal supports that base with ANAB-accredited ISO/IEC 17025:2017 calibration. Since Mobile falls outside our Mid-Atlantic pickup radius, we serve the area two ways: prepaid ship-in calibration with a typical five-business-day in-lab turnaround, and onsite calibration appointments at your facility. Every calibration follows documented procedures, is traceable through NIST, and comes with an audit-ready certificate supporting AS9100, ISO 13485, ISO 9001, and FDA 21 CFR Part 820.

How Tra-Cal Serves Mobile, AL
In-Lab Calibration:
Send your equipment to our ANAB-accredited ISO/IEC 17025:2017 laboratory with prepaid inbound and return shipping. Calibration is performed in a climate-controlled environment against documented procedures, with traceability through NIST. Standard turnaround is approximately five business days from receipt, and asset records are retained with automated due-date notifications.
Onsite Calibration:
Our metrologists travel to Mobile-area facilities for fixed assets, large inventories, and instruments that should not be moved - environmental chambers, test benches, torque and pressure equipment tied to a hull or an assembly line, and hangar or dockside gear that cannot leave the site. Because the Gulf Coast is outside our courier region, onsite work is booked as a scheduled campaign, then performed in a controlled environment at your facility with the same accreditation, NIST traceability, and documentation as in-lab service.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. Tra-Cal's ISO/IEC 17025:2017, ANAB-accredited laboratory is physically located at 8577 Atlas Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20877. Mobile and Baldwin counties are served two ways: prepaid ship-in calibration with roughly a five-business-day in-lab turnaround, and scheduled onsite visits by our mobile calibration labs. We do not maintain an office or drop-off point in Mobile and never claim one.
-
Austal USA on Blakeley Island and the ship-repair yards on Pinto Island run enormous inventories of torque tools, pressure gauges, micrometers, multimeters, thermal instruments and NDT support equipment, all of it on recall schedules tied to Navy and commercial survey requirements. Tra-Cal calibrates that mix to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 with NIST traceability, reports measurement uncertainties, and returns certificates that reference ANSI Z540-1 and Z540.3 for source inspection and audit review.
-
Yes. Each Tra-Cal mobile lab carries well over 100 reference instruments, so a technician can calibrate RF, electrical, temperature, pressure and dimensional assets in place - at an aerospace shop on the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley, a plant along the Port of Mobile, or a facility across the bay in Daphne or Spanish Fort. Gulf Coast onsite work is booked as a planned campaign, so send an asset list and give us lead time.
-
No, and we would rather say so plainly. Tra-Cal's courier pickup and delivery runs cover the Mid-Atlantic around the Gaithersburg lab, and Mobile sits far outside that radius. Gulf Coast customers use prepaid ship-in service, where we cover freight in both directions, or an onsite mobile-lab visit. Nothing about our Mobile service depends on a local facility.
-
Standard in-lab turnaround is about five business days from receipt, plus transit each way between the Gulf Coast and Maryland. Expedited handling is available when a vessel delivery milestone, an aircraft return-to-service date or a customer audit is driving the schedule. A dedicated account manager confirms receipt, flags anything found out of tolerance before work proceeds, and commits to a return date.

Tra-Cal is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 by ANAB. Our current scope of accreditation is published as a PDF on this site so Mobile-area quality managers can verify parameters and ranges before shipping assets. -
RF and microwave, general electronic, temperature and humidity, physical and dimensional, oven and freezer, optical, and timing and frequency instrumentation - the mix an aircraft final assembly line, an MRO hangar, a piston-engine manufacturer, a steel mill or a chemical plant along the Mobile River actually runs. We also repair equipment from more than 100 manufacturers and sell new instruments, so a failed asset does not have to become a purchase decision.
